Long before purpose-built race bikes, sophisticated suspension, or modern safety equipment, riders climbed aboard stripped-down machines and charged onto towering wooden board tracks where speed came first and consequences came second. With primitive brakes, rigid frames, narrow tires, and little more than determination to keep them upright, these racers laid the foundation for every generation of motorcycle competition that followed.
